Biggest news to shake Monday morning is none other than Mr. Trumps continues antics against China with his promise to impose heavy tariffs on the Asian giant. The US President has instructed his administration to levy another US$200 billion worth of goods entering the States from China, including products from agriculture, hybrid vehicles to clothing and food, calling this his ‘Phase 2’ after an earlier US$50 billion tariff.

Giving a respite to the tech sector, the President soften the blow to tech products, leaving smartwatches and Bluetooth enabled devices from the latest list of goods subject to taxes. Trump has accused China of stealing technology and IP from American made products which enabled Chinese company to leap itself in innovation and grow to what they are today. He is looking at using tariff as a way to stop these company’s from overtaking. For instance, Huawei has been trying to enter the biggest consumer market for years but to no avail due to regulation blocks from Trump and the latest trade war will only set negotiations back for the smartphone maker.

China could retaliate as it did when Phase 1 was initiated but with Beijing still shocked on the latest move any reaction could see Trump upping the ante with his already mentioned threat of Phase 3. Many American tech company look at the second largest consumer market for the next big break, with Apple gaining momentum and the likes of Google, HP all making brisk business.Things are looking uncertain at both sides of the wall for the moment.
