Apple has acquired Beddit – a sleep tracking hardware and software company. The news first broke on CNBC.
Beddit’s privacy policy page, the company confirmed that it has been acquired and that user information “will be collected, used and disclosed in accordance with the Apple Privacy Policy.”
No details of the acquisitions were reported.
Founded in 2007, Beddit is a Finnish company that makes sleep-tracking devices that work with apps for iOS and the Apple Watch. They first launched its products in Apple stores in late 2015. Their latest product sold at the Apple store is the Beddit Sleep Monitor – a strip of sensors that can be slid across the bed, analysing sleep data including “sleep time and efficiency, heart rate, respiration, temperature, movement, snoring, room temperature, and room humidity”. Users don’t need to wear any activity tracker at all. It retails for $149.
As of now it seems Beddit’s site will be remaining as is, so current customers should still have access to products and services. Not sure how the integration will go in the future but Apple is definitely interested in sleep tracking tech. Perhaps additional features for Apple Watch – provided they can solve the issue of needing to charge the smartwatch everyday.
