Garena, Southeast Asia’s largest consumer internet platform company, today awarded partial scholarships worth RM30,000 to Asia Pacific University’s competitive League of Legends (LoL) team after winning the Collegiate Division of the Malaysia Campus League (MYCL) tournament.

On top of receiving the first-ever scholarship, which aims to provide an extra layer of support towards students passionate about eSports, the MYCL champions also took home a RM2,500 cash prize and will further represent Malaysia at the International eSports Festival in South Korea and the League of Legends International Collegiate Championship in Thailand later this year.

Held in Asia Pacific University, Bukit Jalil, the MYCL Grand Finals event hosted hundreds of students and LoL players from across the country to top-level LoL eSports experience, with thousands more watching the finale online via livestream (live.garena.com) from the comfort of their homes.

MYCL is a biannual LoL tournament spanning across the nation, open to well over 2,000 schools and campuses locally. This edition of the competition kicked off in July and comprises of two separate divisions — Collegiate for tertiary-level students and Junior for secondary school students.

While Asia Pacific University had secured the title as Malaysia’s best collegiate team with their win in the MYCL Collegiate Division finals, the competition over in the Junior Division finals similarly saw SM San Min Suwa from Perak walk away as the best school in the competitive LoL eSports scene locally, receiving the grand prize of RM1,500 along the way.
