Forget about a gemstone bracelet, Ultrasonic bracelets are the way to go
It’s 2020 and espionage tech is becoming increasingly attainable. I mean come on, most smart devices come with a microphone and while they’re not supposed to be listening at all times, lets be real here, they are. From the authorities trying to listen in on your conversations to your disgruntled partner hiring a personal investigator to “Catch cheating spouse”, private conversations are hard to come by these days, no matter how secluded or isolated you think you are.
Hope is not lost, however. Researchers from the University of Chicago have built an experimental bracelet that utilizes ultrasonic broadcasts from not one, not two, but 24 speakers to jam microphones regardless of which direction they’re in. How it works is it basically leaks ultrasonic noise into the audible range to render all recordings in its radius useless.
Now if you’re sketchy af, you’re probably thinking you want one..like right now. Well, the keyword here is that the bracelet is experimental so it isn’t actually the most fashionable thing to be wearing. I mean, fashion is ever evolving so it could be in trend, who knows?! But odds are, people are going to notice it from a mile away so it’s not exactly subtle.
But hey, who cares what it looks like when it ensures omnidirectional jamming and eliminates blind spots through your wrist movement, right? Now all the scientists behind it have to do is make it look presentable. Apparently investors have inquired about commercializing the technology and its estimated that it could be built for a mere $20 USD.
While the device will give normal people the peace of mind to know that no one’s listening on their conversations and keep business meetings under wraps, it’s a bit of a double edged sword with the technology also enabling politicians and nefarious fellows to avoid being accountable for the sh*t they do. Will this open an ethical can of worms? For sure! Can’t wait to see how it’s regulated.
