If you’ve followed what I’ve written for a while now, you’ll know I am a huge fan of dark modes. Okay maybe ‘fan’ is a bit exaggerated, but it’s a customisability option that I appreciate. For the past few months, the bane of my existence has been Google’s very own mobile app, which powers my searches and Google Assistant, only because out of all my Google apps, it was the one holding out on me.
But now, Google have finally announced both Android and iOS users will be able to enable dark mode by this week.
Starting today & fully rolling out this week, dark mode is now available for the Google App on Android 10 and iOS 12/13. By default, the Google App will reflect your device’s system settings in Android 10 & iOS 13. If that’s set to a dark theme, the app will be in dark mode…. pic.twitter.com/ZqSD33ZhNt

Once you receive the update, the app will automatically switch over to whichever theme your device is already using on Android 10 or iOS 13. However, for iOS 12 users, you’ll have to manually toggle between light and dark mode by going into the app’s settings and choose the theme you’d prefer.
While yes, I wholly understand this update isn’t ‘substantial’ so to speak, but it’s a quality-of-life update that tech heads and people who care about aesthetics are into. To me especially, a very welcome update. Who in their right mind uses light themes for their apps?? Do you enjoy being blinded by searing light when you use your phone at night??
