Telenor Youth Forum 2018 Applications Now Open

Digi Telecommunication is searching for two inspiring youths to represent Malaysia in the sixth Telenor Youth Forum (TYF). Telenor Youth Forum 2018 is a year-long global programme hosted by Telenor Group and the Nobel Peace Centre. It seeks to tackle real-life problems and reduce inequalities through innovative digital solutions. TYF 2018 takes place in Oslo, Norway, from December 8-11 2018.

Malaysian applicants between the ages of 20-28 may apply for the forum. Applications will open from May 16 to July 27 2018.

The TYF program requires a one-year commitment and also includes a second all-expenses-paid gathering in Bangkok in May 2019. TYF delegates work virtually throughout the year (from December 8, 2018), averaging around two hours per week. Over this period, they will also develop ideas for products, services or campaigns that address urgent social challenges. The Telenor Group will assign these challenges to them at the event’s December kickoff in Oslo.

“Telenor Youth Forum brings together young changemakers from around the world to address common social issues through digital technology,” says Quah Yean Nie, Head of Communications and Sustainability at Digi. “We also hope to create an arena that builds on youth efforts to bring solutions that benefits communities and improves lives.”

Along the way, delegates also receive mentorship from Telenor Group’s experts. Mentors equip delegates with real-world skills such as service design, prototyping, presenting, exhibiting, and pitching.

The winning team of Telenor Youth Forum 2018 will receive funding of as much as 100,000 Norwegian Kroner (RM50,000).

Ida Thien and Shaun Adam Abdullah represent Malaysia for TYF 2017. The challenges they tackle include issues on online safety, digital identity, and working conditions. They will showcase their cause at Telenor Youth Forum 2018 in Oslo.

If you seek to engage with people all over the world and believe in digital technology’s potential to solve global issues, you can apply for the programme on Telenor’s website. You can also stay updated on Digi by following its Facebook page.
