After much teasing – it’s here.
The TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45 is indeed everything you’d hope it’ll be. Which comes with a rather hefty price tag depending on the way you build your watch.
Designed with Google and Intel, the Connected Modular 45 is said to come in 4,000 different ways to build it. Users can choose (and swap) among 56 lugs, straps, and buckles made of various materials including rubber, leather, titanium, ceramic in different colours.
The watch itself comes in different versions – the main Android Wear smartwatch, as well as two mechanical watches. Water-resistant up to 50 meters, it features a built in GPS, an NFC sensor for payments, a high definition AMOLED screen and a wide selection of unlimited customisable TAG Heuer dials. TAG Heuer Studio dial configurator allows customers to create their own dial as well.
The watch is powered by Google’s Android Wear 2.0 with Intel Atom processor Z34XX series and the new TAG Heuer Companion app. It also has Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity, and comes with 4 GB of storage memory and a latest-generation lithium battery providing more than a full day of power,
It is also fitted with a small water-resistant microphone enabling the wearer to communicate with it using Google Assistant, as well as a sapphire crystal touchscreen, to be used alongside the command crown at 3 o’clock.
The Connected Modular 45 isn’t dependant on the phone. As long as the watch is still connected to the cloud, it will continue to compute, display and exchange information. Watch native applications such as music, timer, alarm, pedometer, etc. will remain active without a connection.
The watch is compatible with mobile running Android 4.3+ or iOS 9+. It is recharged using a contact charger.
Pricing starts at USD $1650, or MYR 7350 – although depending on the modularities that you choose you could easily push 5-figures in USD. There’s a Deluxe box set which comes with a connected watch (in grade 5 titanium, with titanium lugs and brown natural leather strap), complete with a COSC-certified chronograph Heuer-02T tourbillon mechanical module, plus an additional black rubber strap. That set is available for a total price of USD $17,000 (approx. MYR 76, 000) and comes in a presentation case with three drawers, complete with a desktop display stand to hold the watch and its charger.
The connected and mechanical modules come with a two-year warranty, while accessories (strap, buckle, lugs, charger) are covered by a one-year warranty. The watches will be on sale in TAG Heuer boutiques, from a selection of retailers, or available for delivery via the brand’s online webstore.
