Sunway International Schools (SIS) recently organised the Elementary Book Week from 9 to 13 October.

It aims to cultivate a love for reading and nurture a culture of lifelong learning among students. 

The week-long event featured various engaging activities, including bonfire night, Teddy Bear picnic, readathon, daily reading sessions, student costume parades, and a book scavenger hunt.

During the bonfire night, students enjoyed cozy storytelling sessions while participating in sing-alongs, wrapped in warm blankets and savoring delicious snacks. 

The Teddy Bear Picnic allowed elementary students to relish a delightful lunch with their favorite snacks and soft toys, providing a unique ‘outside the classroom’ environment for relaxation and reading.

Notably, the SIS Principal, Mr. Brett Syer, and Vice Principal, Mr. Michael Owen, made a surprise appearance as Thing One and Thing Two from Dr. Seuss, captivating the students with an entertaining storytelling session.

The event also  incorporated the Drop Everything and Read (DEAR) concept, inspired by the Newbery Medal-winning author Beverly Cleary.

This is to encourage the students to dedicate specific time to uninterrupted reading, fostering healthy reading habits.

The Elementary Book Week concluded with a vibrant parade, in which students get to dress up in their preferred costumes.
