Sony has announced the development of a new display system featuring an independent drive RGB LED with a high-density backlight, enabling precise control of red, green, and blue colours.
This breakthrough technology enhances colour purity and expands the display’s colour gamut, making it suitable for both professional film production and home viewing.
Equipped with Sony’s proprietary backlight control technology, the system ensures accurate reproduction of delicate hues and subtle light gradations, even on large screens. Unlike conventional displays, it dynamically adjusts power allocation to each RGB channel based on scene requirements, achieving peak brightness levels of over 4000 cd/m²—matching Sony’s professional monitors.
Sony, in collaboration with MediaTek, ROHM, and Sanan Optoelectronics, is advancing the development of its dedicated control processor and LED drive technology. Mass production is set to begin in 2025, with plans to integrate the system into consumer televisions and professional-grade displays.
