SoftBank Group announced that they will be buying robotics company Boston Dynamics from Alphabet, Google’s parent company.
The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Google acquired Boston Dynamics in 2013. Boston Dynamics was popularly known for their nature-inspired robots, often showcased on YouTube videos dealing with ice, snow and other obstacles.
CNET reported that communication between Alphabet and Boston Dynamics had slowly turned sour, with the tech giant looking to sell the robotics branch for some time.
The deal with Alphabet also includes the acquisition of Japanese bipedal robotics company Schaft. Schaft was founded in 2012 in the JSK Robotics Laboratory at the University of Tokyo.
