Six Sunway College Students Earn Spots At Oxford And Cambridge

Six Malaysian students from Sunway College have secured offers from the prestigious University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford, marking a significant achievement in the country’s academic landscape.

The students, all of whom achieved straight A’s in their Cambridge Assessment International Education results, include Ho ZhengYing, Lim Ho Hua, Tan Wee Henk, Amber Chong Wen Xuan, and Lim Hsien Loong, who received offers from Cambridge, while Ooi Jin Ming has been offered a place at Oxford.

Amber Chong credited the strong support system at Sunway College for her success, particularly after she took time off for emergency lung surgery. She highlighted the role of her lecturers and programme director in guiding her through the Cambridge application process. Ooi Jin Ming also emphasised the impact of the college’s environment, noting that the diverse and passionate student body helped shape his collaborative mindset, a quality sought by top universities.

The students expressed enthusiasm about the opportunities ahead, from engaging with world-class academics to participating in research projects that can contribute to global advancements. Ho ZhengYing shared his goal of giving back by inspiring underprivileged children to pursue their passions, while Lim Ho Hua looked forward to introducing Malaysia’s rich food culture and linguistic diversity to an international audience.

Ahead of their departure, the students are preparing by gaining work experience and securing scholarships. Lim Hsien Loong has taken up part-time jobs to develop real-world skills, and Tan Wee Henk has applied for scholarships, including the Kuok Foundation Scholarship and the Cambridge Trust. He credited Sunway College’s competitive environment for instilling perseverance and self-belief.
