Six Countries Compete In International Challenge Organised By MMU

Multimedia University (MMU) organised an International Business Idea Challenge (IBIC), a competition that drew participants from six countries in the region, recently.

Themed “Digitalising Business in the New Norm”, IBIC was participated by 134 teams across 6 countries; Malaysia, Indonesia, India, Philippines, Bangladesh and United Kingdom. The competition combined the International e-Business & Entrepreneurship Idea Showcase (eBES) and with the International Young Social Entrepreneurs Competition (IYSEC).

It was organised by the Faculty of Business (FOB) MMU along with co-organiser Yayasan Universiti Multimedia (YUM) and strategic partners, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) (Cawangan Sabah), and MTG Capital. The main sponsors were ICAEW, MTG Capital, and VESBO.

The virtual closing ceremony was officiated by Prof. Datuk Dr. Mazliham Mohd Su’ud, President of MMU, who expressed his pleasure with the overwhelming participation. “At MMU, we are fully aware that innovation is the key to true growth. This is the reason behind our organizing this IBIC, as it invites some of the best minds in the region to develop new ideas for newcomers and industry incumbents alike. To me, seeing that we succeeded in drawing a good number of teams, and having them share their novel ideas, is a very satisfactory outcome,” he added.

The competition was organized into tracks, with the eBES Track (Higher Education Category) Champion going to The Elderly App (MMU). MMU also won a number of other awards, including Best Presenter Award for the MedTracker project (in conjunction with Universitas Mercu Buana), the Best Video Award, for the Human Rights Warriors project (with University of Malaya), and The Most Innovative Idea Award for the Bishop project.

Meanwhile, the IYSEC Track (Higher Education Category) Champion went to the AR Foundation project (Universitas Mercu Buana), the Best Presenter Award went to the Mellow U project (MMU), the Best Video Award for FruitzyME (MMU with INTI International University), and The Most Innovative Idea Award for AR Foundation (Universitas Mercu Buana).

In the IBIC Track (School Category), the Champion was the ECO MAKE-UP PACKAGING project (Muzaffar Syah Science Secondary School), the Best Presenter Award went to the ECO MAKE-UP PACKAGING (Muzaffar Syah Science Secondary School), the Best Video Award went to PROJECT SIXTH SENSE (St Francis Institution), and The Most Innovative Idea Award went to BIN2ALL (Muzaffar Syah Science Secondary School). The Best School Award went to the Muzaffar Syah Science Secondary School.

Arsyika Mutia Damayanti, the Champion for IYSEC from Universitas Mercu Buana, Indonesia, said ” Joining IBIC is the one of my wonderful journey in my whole life. Trying to address a problem then solve it by an idea is such an amazing experience that teach me how to think critically.” 

She added, IBIC is really challenging because either directly or indirectly you will learn how to maximize the resources you have and put them into an interesting idea presentation. “I would like to say thank you to the organizers of the IBIC who have provided the opportunity for many students to be able to play an active role using their sensitivity and intuition to develop the innovations.”

Puan Suratulnizal Bt. Ismail, who spoke on behalf of Muzaffar Syah Science Secondary School, the recipient of Best School Award for IBC, said, “We were really excited that our students were given a chance to participate in the IBIC.  Despite this being their first time, our students had won a number of awards.” 

“The IBIC has given valuable experience to our students as it has helped to highlight their talents in innovation and creative idea generation in the world of industry and business,” she added.
