Singapore is under strict movement restriction after a rise in Covid 19 cases were detected in the past week. A month ago the city nation was celebrated for its effective measures in tackling the spread of the virus only to see a spike starting to emerge recently.

As control measures intensify, the authorities have now requested McDonald’s to suspend its operation until May 4 including McDelivery and Drive-Thru services. With effect from 11 am, all McDonald’s restaurants here will be closed for business with Drive-Thru closed at 8 am, and the last order for McDelivery at 10.30 am.

The fast food provider said it has been advised by the Ministry of Health to take preventative action in the fight against COVID-19 in Singapore. A number of its staffs at its outlets were found to be coronavirus positive and was asked to immediately close and disinfect those outlets.

“These are indeed unprecedented times for all of us. We have done all we can to put in place every safety precautionary measure to keep our employees and customers safe – and will continue to do our part to flatten the curve,” said its managing director, Kenneth Chan, in a statement today.

“Most of all, we will continue to stay strong as a brand and people to ride out this difficult period together. As always, we thank our customers for their continued support and look forward to serving them again on May 5,” said Chan.

Singapore has seen a surge in imported cases and migrant workers with high single day increase. Temporary isolation centres have been identified to repatriate the workers from current quarters, including floating barracks. The tiny state will need to muster all its resources to contain the spread in the community as the limited hospitals will not be able to handle a full blown outbreak.
