The Movement Control Order’s (MCO) second phase will now see tighter measures to be implemented. This will also include the operation hours of certain services, which include supermarkets and premises selling essential items. The second phase will begin on Wednesday, April 1st 2020.

This was announced today by Senior Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob via a live broadcast earlier this afternoon.

Ismail Sabri said that eateries, markets and petrol stations will only be allowed to operate from 8am to 8pm daily for the rest of the 14 days of the MCO.

“The second phase will see an increase from the aspect of roadblocks and checking on the movement of people.

“However I want to stress that in the second phase, movement is still allowed, and shops are still allowed to open, but only during the mentioned operating hours,” he said during a press conference the Special Ministerial Committee on MCO meeting today.

“We would like to encourage people to shop online and at the same time try to avoid from having any contact with delivery service people,” he added.

Sabri added that these new restrictions would not affect the public transport system, taxis, and e-hailing services. These services will maintain the operating hours from 6am to 10pm.
