The much touted Project Scorpio has finally been revealed as the latest console from Microsoft, named Xbox One X.
Hailed as the most powerful – but also smallest Xbox console -Xbox was designed to bring true 4K gaming from creators to gamers. Combining 2160p frame buffers, High Dynamic Range and Wide Color Gamut; it boasts 40 percent more power than any other console, with immersive true 4K gaming when paired with a 4K display, such as Samsung’s flagship QLED TV. The console allows for recording game clips in 4K at 60 frames per second and 4K screenshots.
Powered by a 6-teraflop Scorpio engine clocked at 1.172GHz, Xbox One X is fitted with 12 GB GDDR5 memory and 326 GB/s memory bandwidth, giving better textures, smoother framerates and faster load times, including on a 1080p TV. Xbox One X also offers 4K entertainment with 4K Ultra HD for Blu-ray X and streamed content, HDR support for gaming and video, and Dolby Atmos support.
The console comes with liquid cooled vapour chamber (normally used for server cooling), built-in power supply, three USB 3.0 ports (one in the front and two in the back), and IR blaster. Every Xbox One X unit will come with a 1TB hard drive, a matching Xbox Wireless Controller, HDMI cable, power supply, a 1-month free Xbox Game Pass subscription and a 14-day free Xbox Live Gold membership.
Phil Spencer, head of Xbox announced in their E3 briefing that Xbox will expand the Xbox One backward compatibility library of nearly 400 popular Xbox 360 games to include original Xbox classics, starting with fan favourite Crimson Skies. Xbox also revealed that Gears of War 4, Forza Horizon 3, Minecraft, Resident Evil 7, Final Fantasy 15, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands, Rocket League and dozens of other popular Xbox One games will receive free updates to take full advantage of the power of Xbox One X. These titles will be enhanced to run in true 4K, and many will be available at Xbox One X launch.
Xbox One X will join the Xbox One family of devices, alongside Xbox One and Xbox One S; all existing Xbox One games and accessories are compatible with the new addition to the lineup.
Xbox One X begins rolling out to all Xbox One markets starting Nov. 7, priced at $499 USD / 449 GBP / 499 EUR / 599 CAD/ 649 AUD. Pricing for Malaysia has yet to be announced, but it converts to around RM 2200.
