Samsung Had A Lot Of People Spooked When They Got A Notification That Just Said “1”

What looks to have happened as an accident, Samsung Galaxy phone users across the world were talking about a notification they received late last night (in the U.S). All it said was ‘1’, another ‘1’ below it and that it was from Samsung’s Find My Mobile app. Users posted on Samsung’s forums regarding the issue, as well as people getting on Twitter to discuss what the heck was going on.

However, few hours after the incident, Samsung did come out to say that the messages were “unintentional message sent as a result of internal testing & there is no effect to your device. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused & will work to prevent this from occurring in the future.”

Apparently, if you tapped on the aler, it just closes it, so it was pretty harmless. But could you imagine, if you were up in 1-2 AM in morning, and all you got was a message that said ‘1’ and it’s from Find My Mobile? That’s crazy scary, and I’m not the only one who thinks so.

Considering that Find My Mobile lets Samsung devices remotely locate, lock their phone/tablet and back up data to the Samsung cloud, and a bunch more stuff, it’s hard not to be worried. Considering the potential repercussions, something like this amounting to just an internal test gone awry seems a bit too… Anti climatic? Well, Samsung does mention that this internal test had no effect on users devices, so looks like there wasn’t too much to be worried about, huh?
