Samsung Galaxy S8 is Here

After much anticipation the S8 is finally here. Samsung announces their Galaxy S8 and S8+, featuring a bezel-less infinity display.

The S8 comes with a 5.8-inch display, while the S8+ gets a 6.2 inch display, with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on front and back. The Galaxy S8 and S8+ are fitted with 8MP F1.7 Smart autofocus front camera and 12MP F1.7 Dual Pixel rear camera for low-light, zoom and anti-blur photos with enhanced image processing.

Security wise it comes not only with fingerprint scanner situated next to the camera at the back, as well as other biometric securities including an iris scanner and a facial recognition. The phones are IP68 water and dust resistant, with MicroSD support up to 256GB. The S8 holds a 3000 mAh battery while the S8+ holds a 3500 mAh battery, both with fast charging capabilities.

The phones will be powered by Samsung’s latest 10nm processor, with gigabit LTE and gigabit Wi-Fi ready with support for up to 1 Gbps so users can quickly download files, regardless of the file size. The S8 line would be the first mobile device certified by the UHD Alliance as MOBILE HDR PREMIUM.

Along with bezel-less display, the phone’s home button is now invisible, with Samsung opting to prioritise screen space.

Samsung also introduced the new assistant which will be available on the S8 line. The Bixby button is situated on the side of the phone. Bixby is capable of contextual awareness and will be integrated with a few Samsung native apps and features, with the capability to add functionalities to third-party apps. Bixby also has an image recognition ability built into the camera, enabling it to search images and get details; as well as provide personalised suggestions. With Bixby, Samsung plans to connect IoT devices allowing users to control all connected devices by voice command using Bixby.

Along with the launch of the phones, Samsung also shows off other devices including new Gear VR with Controller; Samsung Dex – which allows you to use your phone on a desktop like environment; Samsung Connect – for connecting IoT devices; as well as apps including Samsung Pay, Samsung Health.

Following the recent acquisition of Harman, the phones will come with AKG earphones as in-box accessories. The earphones retail at USD $99 (approx. RM450).  The Galaxy S8 and S8+ will be available starting on April 21, and will be offered in 5 colours including Midnight Black, Orchid Gray, Arctic Silver, Coral Blue and Maple Gold.
