Samsung users rejoice! Especially if you purchased last year’s flagships, the Galaxy S10 or Note 10 series devices. The Korean electronics company has announced that S10 and Note 10 devices will soon be getting access to photo features, which the Galaxy S20 utilises. The new software update for the last year’s ’10’ series devices will begin next week, to help you step up your photo taking game.

Some of these features from the S20 is pretty cool. One of them, Single Take, is a photography mode which uses the camera and AI to capture a number of photos and videos at once, and recommends the best shot for you. This is about 10 photos and four videos, if you use Single Take.

They’re also bringing over the new Night Hyperlapse mode, to help capture better pictures at night, with some cool light effects. For the videographers, they’re also adding in Custom Filter and Pro Video mode that lets you control the shutter speed, adjust the ISO settings, and exposure level. You’ll also be able to switch between the front and rear cameras while recording video, which is also pretty cool.

To help store and manage these photos, Clean View is an AI-enabled gallery feature that helps you organise by grouping similar images of the same subject for better organisation.

There’s a few more updates too, but these were the major ones from the announcement. It definitely does add value and can appreciate Samsung doing this. Considering the pace at which smartphones depreciate, support for older (apparently a year is older now) devices is a good thing. It’s a great value add for consumers when they know they’re getting the latest and greatest, and not shunned for missing out features just because you purchased the phone a few months too early.
