Raise up your hands if you’ve made your friends – well, significant other, in my case – wait while you take photos of your food. Don’t lie – I’m sure we’ve all done that at least once in our lives. I’m guilty of this as well. That and taking a lot of selfies and pictures of my family.
Immortalising memories and telling stories through images is something I enjoy doing. This is why having a worthy smartphone camera is a very important aspect for me personally. Sure, I could carry around a DSLR or a mirrorless camera. But let’s face it: I am a mom of two – ain’t nobody got time for that.
Cue the Samsung Galaxy Note9 – a phablet that is the talk of the town of late. The device features a dual 12-megapixels rear camera, and an 8-megapixels front camera. While this sounds like the run-of-the-mill offering for any top-end mobile device, I have to say that the Galaxy Note9 aims to impress.
A Great Companion
What I look for in a camera is whether the colour processing capabilities meets my standards – over-processed images aren’t my thing. Also, its ability to adapt to the different situations, especially when it comes to lighting, is very important as well. Not only does it come with a dual real camera, the Galaxy Note9 is equipped with a Dual Aperture lens that adapts to the environment. The lens will intelligently choose between two f-stop modes: F1.5 mode for super low-light shots and F2.4 mode for crisp photos in normal lighting.
Details are not lost with the Galaxy Note9 camera, despite being zoomed in to take this close-up of my sunflower (below). You can still clearly see the bees having a grand time in the photo. I should add that what you see if what you get with the device – no editing whatsoever. The Live Focus function is also great to create a spotlight effect. It was fun to use – I quite like the bokeh effect that you can achieve with it.
Make a Scene
I appreciate the features that has been thoughtfully selected for its camera app. The scene optimiser functionality is truly a lifesaver, especially when you just need to snap a moment quick and easy. Minimal effort to take beautiful shots every single time. From food and portraits to macros and sceneries, the Galaxy Note9 is capable of producing effortless shots.
