Samsung has issued a statement in regards to a flaw in its ultrasonic fingerprint sensor which allows anyone to access its devices despite secured fingerprint protection.

This comes after a British user discovered the Galaxy S10 she was using with a screen protector failed to prevent anyone else from accessing her device. Apparently cheap silicon protectors have dot matrices that keeps the clear protector from sticking to the glass, this however caused a malfunction on the ultra-sonic sensor. By right with the protector enrolling your fingerprint should not work but it did as it was recognising the pattern on the protector instead of the users fingerprint. The vulnaberality allows anyone to unlock the device.

In response to the report, Samsung asks users of Galaxy Note10/10+ and S10/S10+/S10 5G users who use such covers to remove the cover, delete all previous fingerprints and newly register their fingerprints.

And for those currently using front screen protective covers, to ensure optimum fingerprint scanning, to refrain from using these cover until the device has been updated with a new software patch.

The company plans to release a software update as early as next week, and once updated, all owners are required to scan their fingerprint in its entirety again, so that the all portions of the fingerprint, including the center and corners are fully scanned.
