The SalamWeb Technologies Malaysia managing director, Hasni Zarina Mohamed Khan and her team claimed to have developed the world’s first Syariah-certified web browser – SalamWeb.
“SalamWeb aims to empower Muslims and help them lead a digital life that is consistent with their values and beliefs,” she said.
SalamWeb greets users with a verse from the Quran on startup. It will also display prayer times, the Qibla direction and SalamNews – news feed curated from approved sites. The browser will filter out inappropriate content.
Hasni further added that the content filtering is based on Islamic principles. Searches with gambling elements are not spared either. A feature, SalamTag allows users to report inappropriate content or websites.
Norhizam Kadir, vice president of growth ecosystem development at the Malaysia Digital Ecosystem Corporation (MDEC), said
“Everyone can play a more positive role through SalamWeb by actively using the SalamTag feature. We need the help of the community as well.”
