High Capacity for The Masses
Western Digital has finally come out with an ‘affordable’ SSD with high capacities for the masses. The WD Blue and Sandisk Ultra 1TB are the company’s latest SSD offering, and apart from the sticker on the box, share similar performance. While the price is still high, you are getting about RM2 per GB, which is very affordable these days for SSD.
As of today, the prices for the two drives are still in the high-range, especially for large capacities. While the drives are the same, the branding still speaks volumes, especially for loyal customers who can resonate with the brand.
Middle of the Road Speeds
The 3D NAND technology in the SSD gives the two drives enough legroom to be in the middle of the pack in terms of transfer speed. Mind you, this is still a fast drive, with both achieving around 298MB/s data transfer rate from the drives to another drive, and vice versa. Unlike faster NVME-based drives, these two drives here will last longer at low power consumption.
Good for Finding Files
The random read speed for the drives is impressive, with a sustained 80MB/s in every test we ran on it. This translates to faster file-load when you open an explorer window. It also writes quite fast as well, clocking an average 181MB/s write speed. Dump your files or your games onto these drives, and you will be happy with the performance.
Verdict: With either brand, it is still a good buy for an SSD.
