Verdict: Very fast transfer speed, I like the performance which is one of the most important thing about HDD.
Our daily lives revolves around data nowadays,be it our accumulation of photos (selfies?), documents, videos, and the list goes on. Our data storage consumption is increasing yet our storage space is still somewhat limited. This is why having your very own portable data storage solution is the way to go. We gave the TOSHIBA Canvio Slim II with us – let’s see how it fairs!
This portable HDD is great in terms of performance, but how fast does it really go? It reads and writes with an average speed of 100 MB/s. To give you a picture of how fast it runs, Itransferred 8GB of data to the storage and it took less than a minute. Of course, I was using my USB3.0 port connection. It is also compatible with USB2.0, if your PC doesn’t have the former. There are two colours of light indicators on the HDD, which will tell you if you are running on USB3.0 or USB2.0.
PC or Mac? Or both?
This HDD comes default in NTFS format; Windows user can instantly open and copy files out of the box. It is also compatible for Mac OS, which is a rarity of its own. On the bat, you’re able to view the files on the Mac OS when you plug it in, but if you want to place your files in the HDD, you will need to install the software provided. It comes preloaded within the device.
Toshiba also included a number of useful software inside, such as backup, password protection and cloud service. I don’t think everyone will use all the bundled software in a single instant. Good news though, you will receive free 10GB cloud storage if you sign up for its cloud service as well.
Compact but not that slim
The design of this HDD may look compact but it is not as slim as some of its competitors. If you really looking for super slim one, you might want to look for other options. That said, Toshiba has done a fantastic job on the look and feel: it’s sleek and of excellent quality. Those looking for a HDD that is practical with great performance, the Toshiba Canvio Slim II is the right choice for you.
