Remember the KWorld in-ear monitor that was reviewed last issue? Turns out there’s more where it came from. This time around, I’ll be testing out the KWorld G6 instead, a circumaural (over-the-ear) headphone that is designed for e-sports.

Plain Looks

The G6 is coloured mostly black, with some blue and bronze gold to accentuate. Nothing really stands out, except the large swivel mic on the left side, but so far so good. It’s quite light despite its size and the bulky looking ear cans, something that’s attributed to the lightweight plastic body and the mostly hollow ear cans. On the other hand, that also means that it doesn’t feel very solid and certainly feels very cheap, more so than the usual plastic body headphones.

Unfit for Duty

The G6 was made for smaller people in mind, so people like me won’t get a proper seal with it. There’s a small gap at the bottom where it didn’t cover my ears properly, which means you’ll hear outside sound much louder. In other words, if you want some degree of sound isolation, the KWorld G6 might not deliver. In terms of comfort, the headband and ear paddings are actually rather decent, though the latter seems to be filled with a harder type of foam that’s not as comfortable.

Fair Sound

As a gaming headset, voice audio quality is the most important aspect. Using Skype and other common gaming communications software like Raidcall, I found that the others on the receiving end hear me well enough, but not a significant improvement over standard gaming headsets, and the same goes for when I’m listening to voice chats. Sensitivity level is just below average for gaming headsets, so its volume isn’t very high. Plus, there’s no surround sound, not even on software, so positional sense via audio that FPS gamers prefer won’t be possible.

Entry Level Choice

Now there’s one reason to opt for the KWorld G6 over other brands, though it may just be average. For an asking price of just RM109, this headset is about the cheapest gaming headset you can find. So if the audio quality is not important to you, or you just want one without a heavy price tag, the KWorld G6 can fit those criteria.
