Colours Too Blown Out
The phone is fitted with a 20-megapixels + 12-megapixel dual rear camera. True to its specs, the image quality comes out clear, crisp, and really bright. This is especially useful for low light situations, as this phone picks up a lot of details and colours, even in really dark situations. However, when it comes to bright places, the pictures come out looking rather fake. The colours are really blown out, making it seems like someone decided to put a neon filter on everything. This is especially prominent in settings where there is a lot of white. I have to manually tone down the brightness or everything looks like its got a super bright spotlight on it and someone painted objects on a white canvas.
Colours Colours
This isn’t just an issue with the camera. The colours shown on screen also presents itself over saturated, making the colours pop, but in a way that someone has decided to colour over everything on your screen with an extra paint can in hand. Sometimes, the colours can really take over the screen, making the picture lose a lot of depth and texture. It feels a bit like Alice in Wonderland, and everything seems a bit unrealistic and 2 dimensional.
Finger Smudge is Enemy
The phone has a mirror finishing on the back, making it really susceptible to fingerprints and smudges. While the build of the phone itself is quite solid and comes with a comfortable grip, I personally prefer a matte finishing. A mirror finish just doesn’t quite sit well in my hands.
Where’s my Headphone Jack?!?!?
Yes. This phone doesn’t come with a headphone jack. And this is extremely frustrating. While I do enjoy using Bluetooth headphones, I personally still like having a wired headphones where I don’t have to worry about battery life or charging.
Huge memory, No card slot
Most phones in the market either opt for a hybrid SIM tray where the second slot can either accommodate a SIM or a micro SD card, the Mate 10 Pro is sorely lacking in that. While there is options for dual SIM, there is no option for external storage. That aside, the Mate 10 Pro starts with a 128GB storage, double than the standard 64Gb or even smaller 32GB offered in most phones in the market.
Speedy Performance
Running a Kirin 970, this is one extremely speedy phone. Although it’s graphics rendering capability isn’t going to compare to some of the phones with a much better graphics chip; this phone performs noticeably faster than many phones in the market. It’s minimal loading time means there is virtually no lag using this phone. Although it does slow down a teeny bit when you are multitasking, it still is one of the faster performing phone in the market.
Solid Battery For All Day Use
With a 4000mAh battery, this is a phone that performs well, and will still be able to serve you for a good solid day of use. Considering its speedy capabilities, being able to work on this phone all day without worrying about battery life is a very welcomed feature.
Verdict
Design wise, the Mate 10 Pro has made a few changes that is curious, and not necessarily needed. The overly saturated colours aside, this phone is a great performer for daily task and works well for majority of the tasks.
