Razer Buys Stake In MOL For Virtual Currency Distribution

Malaysian based e payment potrtal MOL has stuck another significant deal, this time with leading gaming brand Razer master distributor for zGold virtual currency. The gaming market is set to grow to US$2.2 billion in revenue this year and both firms are geared to tap into this robust industry. Gamers i the region can now use virtual currency to purchase games and other gaming accessories both online and retail stores using these digital currency.

Upon this move, all MOLPoints virtual currency will be rebranded to zGold and will be now sold at over 1 million online and retail stores in countries including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand. The currency will also be accepted as payment for over 2,500 content titles from the MOL network. Blockbuster games from distribution platforms such as PlayStation Store SEA, Facebook Gameroom, and publishers such as Nexon, Wargaming will become available for zGold users in selected countries.

As part of this strategic tie-up, Razer has purchased a minority 19.9% interest in MOL Global, Inc an interesting alliance to innovate in the FinTech sector. MOL Online is owned by Tan Sri Vincent Tan of Berjaya Group and are holders of Facebook shares.
