Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. has launched the Snapdragon® 8 Gen 5 Mobile Platform, a premium system-on-chip designed to deliver flagship-level performance, intelligence, and immersive experiences for the latest generation of smartphones.
The new 8-series offering expands Qualcomm’s premium tier, providing consumers with greater choice and flexibility in AI, camera innovation, and mobile gaming capabilities. “As the demand for premium smartphones continues to surge, Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is perfectly positioned to meet and exceed consumers’ evolving expectations,” said Chris Patrick, senior vice president and general manager of mobile handsets at Qualcomm Technologies. “Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 places users at the centre of their mobile experiences, empowering them with the speed, intelligence, and efficiency they need to perform at their peak and unlock their full creative potential.”
Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 introduces the custom-built Qualcomm Oryon™ CPU, capable of peak speeds up to 3.8 GHz, delivering a 36% performance improvement and 76% faster web browsing responsiveness compared with its predecessor. Complementing the CPU, the Qualcomm® Adreno™ GPU employs sliced architecture to achieve higher clock speeds, boosting graphics and gaming performance by 11%.
The platform also enhances AI-driven mobile experiences through the Qualcomm® Sensing Hub and AI Engine, enabling users to wake their AI assistant simply by picking up the device. Powered by the Qualcomm® Hexagon™ NPU, Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 delivers up to 46% improved AI performance, facilitating context-aware interactions and personalised suggestions on-device.
Qualcomm confirmed that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Mobile Platform will power upcoming flagship devices from global OEMs, including OnePlus, iQOO, Motorola, and Vivo, with new products expected to launch in the coming weeks. The company highlights the platform’s ability to transform smartphones into intuitive companions, combining speed, intelligence, and efficiency to support advanced multitasking, creative applications, and immersive gaming.
