In a bid to elevate the English language proficiency among Malaysian students, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has announced a strategic initiative set to commence in 2024. While emphasizing the importance of Bahasa Malaysia as the national language, the Prime Minister expressed the need for a significant improvement in students’ command of English, particularly in national schools.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim underscored the pivotal role of language proficiency in the globalized world and stressed that students, especially those attending national schools, must receive additional emphasis to enhance their English language skills. The move aims to equip the younger generation with the necessary linguistic tools to navigate an increasingly interconnected and competitive international landscape.

The initiative aligns with the government’s commitment to providing a well-rounded education that prepares Malaysian students for success both nationally and internationally. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim highlighted that proficiency in English is crucial for academic and professional advancement, emphasizing that it does not diminish the significance of Bahasa Malaysia.

“All our children, especially in national schools, must have additional emphasis so their command of English is much better than it is now.” remarked Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim during the announcement.
