Starting 1 November 2015, the price for prepaid reloads will revert back to its price without Goods and Services Tax (GST) and the Royal Malaysian Customs Department will make the announcement next month.

Deputy Minister of Finance,Datuk Johari Abdul Ghani speaking at the Consumers Forum 2015 in Kuala Lumpur, says the government will no longer compromise with the telcos who fail to execute the decision and is ready to take further actions if they continue to refuse. The government wants to ensure that customers will get the value of RM10 when they buy RM10 top up.

Telcos have been given 6 months to adjust their system to the new formula and the timehas come for them to stop dawdling on this matter. The consumers should not have to bear the burden of telcos’ incompetence, says Datuk Johari. And we agree with him. The imposition of GST has hit Malaysians hard as a lot of commodities and basic needs products are also taxed and not excluded. This change in policy, although seemingly minor, will be a welcomed relief to many.
