After news broke about Microsoft scrapping MS Paint, all hell broke loose.

Well, MS Paint fans can breathe easy now. Microsoft’s much loved original art app isn’t disappearing – it’s just moving to Windows Store instead. The application will be offered for free.

In a statement, Microsoft wrote: “Today, we’ve seen an incredible outpouring of support and nostalgia around MS Paint. If there’s anything we learned, it’s that after 32 years, MS Paint has a lot of fans. It’s been amazing to see so much love for our trusty old app.”

The original announcement of MS Paints demise was first reported by the Guardian, noting a list of features to be expected for the Window’s 10 Autumn Creators Update. According to the original report, Microsoft Paint fell under the list for “features that are removed or deprecated in Windows 10 Fall Creators Update”. Guardian wrote that it was categorised as apps that are “not in active development and might be removed in future releases”.

While Microsoft moves Paint into the Windows Store, they are actively pushing for their new app for creativity – the Paint 3D. The Paint 3D was first introduced along with the Windows 10 Creators Update back in April. Many MS Paint features and other 2D creation functions will also be made available on Paint 3D.
