Nothing OS 4.0 Goes Live, Making Phones Smarter, Darker And More Tactile

London-based consumer technology brand Nothing has begun the public rollout of Nothing OS 4.0, powered by Android 16. The update builds on the framework of OS 3.0, offering a more refined, connected, and intelligent user experience.

Nothing OS 4.0 introduces Live Updates via the Glyph Interface, delivering real-time information from ride-hailing, delivery, and timer apps directly to the screen. The update also adds a deeper Extra Dark Mode for improved contrast and reduced power consumption, enhanced interaction animations, and subtle haptic feedback at volume limits.

The new release offers more widget sizes, a Pop-up View for multitasking, and Hidden Icons to simplify home screens. Phone (3) users gain additional features, including Flip to Glyph controls, refined Pocket Mode, and new Glyph Toys such as Hourglass and Lunar Cycle. The Glyph Mirror Selfie allows saving original photos as extras in the Gallery.

Additionally, Nothing Playground lets users create custom Essential Apps via AI using simple descriptions, which can then be added to the home screen for a personalised creative space.

Nothing OS 4.0 is currently rolling out to Phone (3) users and will expand to other Nothing and CMF smartphones in the coming months.
