Not Good Enough

Did you know that Amazon and WhatsApp were scolded by the privacy campaigning group, Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) due to their “disappointing” privacy practices? They were also told that they can and should be doing better in its yearly review.

While nine companies earned top ratings with five stars in the seventh annual “Who Has Your Back” privacy report, Amazon and WhatsApp scored only two stars in the EFF’s rating and were singled out in the report.

According to EFF, it was disappointing that the two technology companies fell short and are not acting as leaders in a number of other criteria that were examined. As a result, the two companies were criticised for not having strong public policies around the notification of government data requests and for not meeting the EFF’s benchmark for not selling out users.

“We urge both Amazon and WhatsApp to improve their policies in the coming year so they match the standards of other major online services,” says the EFF.
