According to Eurogamer, the upcoming portable home gaming console (never thought we’d be able to say that) from Nintendo won’t even be able to support 1080p gaming while on the move. That’s right – it’s 2016, and a major electronics company is still thinking of selling a device that runs below Full HD resolution.
If the report is to be believed, the screen will be 6.2″ large, and have a pixel density of about 240 PPI. That would make it an upgrade over the Wii U, on par with the PlayStation Vita, but a lot poorer than many modern smartphones.
Of course, this was probably done to bring cost down and to extend battery life. We fully expect the Nintendo Switch to natively display at 1920X1080 when docked and connected to a HDTV. For more official specs though, we’ll have to wait for the announcement in mid-January.
