Looks like the leaks were true, and there is a Nintendo Mini on it’s way. While of course it’s not exactly similar to the leaks, at least there was merit to the claim that Nintendo were working on a more affordable, compact Switch. It’s called the Nintendo Switch Lite, and it’s expected to launch worldwide on September 20th, 2019 for $199 (RM 817 at time of writing). But whether it’ll be available in Malaysia on the same date, remains to be seen.

It will work only with games that have Handheld mode, so that’s something to keep in mind about the device. That basically means no games that require the joycons detaching, no local multiplayer, and other that the Switch is capable of because of the detachable joycons.

That also unfortunately means, no IR motion camera, and no HD rumble feautures. Games like 1,2 Switch, which requires motion control, won’t work on the Lite version. But it comes in a smaller form factor for extra mobility. The Switch is 4” high, 9.4” long, .55” deep (with Joy-Con attached) while the Switch Lite is 3.6” high, 8.2” long, .55” deep. And that also means the screen is smaller, with the Switch coming in at 6.2″ while the Lite only at 5.5″.

But don’t fret, a lot of the flagship games like Mario Odyssey, Legend of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild, Pokemon Sword & Shield, and more. The Nintendo Switch Lite will come in three colours, Turquoise, Yellow, Grey.

Nintendo knows what it’s doing, and this isn’t exactly surprising news. They updated the 3DS with the New 3DS which had extra buttons, as well as the weird as hell 2DS. It’s right on par with their current strategy, but I for one, am excited about a more compact, purely handheld, Switch.
