
PDRM and ATM, are working together on a massive operation codenamed Ops Benteng in eradicating the country of illegal migrants and syndicates involved in smuggling them into the country.
Chief Police, Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador said this will be the largest exercise of this nature which will also include Sabah and Sarawak. He added of late his department has managed to arrest hundreds of individuals involved in these illegal activities including transporters, agents and those housing them.
The sweeping action by the cops, has lead to the dismantling of entry points usually used by middle men during one of their operation PDRM manage to arrest 306 illegals and 108 agents. Op Benteng sees the collaboration between PDRM, ATM, maritime agency, Ministry of Health, Immigration Department and various other bodies, in what seems to be largest effort of such nature.
Since MCO, the police have been conducting operations in stopping the entry of migrants into the country, many were hauled up and sent to detention centres. While it is reported over 2 million foreign workers are in the country, unofficial report claims the number to be double or even much higher, many of which enter via illegal means The rise on Covid 19 cases among migrants has gotten the government to pay attention to this deep rooted problem the nation has been enduring and finally action is being taken.
