With MWC 2018 in full swing at Barcelona, Spain, Huawei introduces more connected devices to the yearly convention with the MateBook X Pro and MediaPad M5. While some would be expecting the Chinese giant to show off some more smartphones to back up the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro, that doesn’t seem to be the case as Huawei is now focusing towards the PC and Tablet market.
MateBook X Pro
First up is the successor to the Huawei MateBook, the MateBook X Pro. it is the first notebook of its kind to feature a 3K touch-FullView display, while still remaining ultra-slim and packed with features. This 13.9-inch notebook will also come with a 3K touch display with a 91% screen-to-body ratio. The MateBook X Pro will carry an 8th Generation Intel Core processor in two variants – either the i5 or i7.
The MateBook X Pro will also feature two variants when it comes to on-board memory, which will be in-sync with the type of processor you choose. the i5 variant will feature 8GB of LPDDR3 memory while the i7 variant will carry 16GB. There will also be two SSD choices: either 256GB or 512GB of NVMe PCIe.
There is also discrete NVIDIA GeForce MX150 graphics card with 2GB of GDDR5 memory. Being a compact and lightweight notebook, you would expect its battery to not last very long, but Huawei deems it otherwise with a 57.4Wh battery pack. To top it all off, the MateBook X Pro will feature a Dolby Atmos Sound System with custom speakers.
In terms of connectivity, there will be a 3.5mm headphone jack, two USB-C ports (one of which supports Thunderbolt 3) and one USB-A port. The MateBook X Pro will come in two distinct colourways, either Mystic Silver or Space Grey.
MediaPad M5
While tablets aren’t as popular as smartphones, Huawei is looking to change that outlook with the MediaPad M5. The key detail for the MediaPad M5 is its 2K display with 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution. The MediaPad M5 comes in two variants: either 8.4-inches or 10.8-inches. It is ergonomically designed with 2.5D glass to give it a sleek outlook.
At its heart, the tablet comes with the Kirin 960 chipset as well as 4GB of RAM. With two different size variants, the internal storage will also feature two options: 32GB or 64GB. It will also come with Android 8.0 Oreo with EMUI 8.0 UI to keep the core of Huawei’s user experience alongside Google.
Cameras aren’t a big thing for tablets but the MediaPad M5 features a 13-megapixel sensor with f/2.2 aperture. The front -facing camera is 8-megapixels with f/2.2 aperture with fixed-focus. There is also a 7,500mAh battery with quick charging capabilities.
The MediaPad M5 is also fine tuned by harman/kardon, featuring either two or four speakers, depending on the size variant of the MediaPad M5. Audio plays a big part in the MediaPad M5, featuring Huawei’s Histen technology to provide an immersive 3D audio experience through the speakers.
It will come with two colourways in Champagne Gold or Space Grey.
