IF you’re not aware, MSI does have a splinter range of notebooks that’s not entirely appealing to the gaming segment but that does not mean they are inferior nor up to mark for the common user. In fact on the contrary, during our time at PC.com MSI Malaysia religiously ensured our team had the Prestige (the range MSI named for its non gaming series) to test and use. And to be fair we didn’t find any issues with the units.
With Computex this year, MSI has added another new member to the series introducing the Prestige PS42, measuring just 15.9 mm thin and 1.19 kg weight, the PS42 looks remarkably elegant and probably has the most sturdy hinge. Crafted using brushed aluminium, the PS42 matt appearance gives the notebook a premium appeal like a certain brand from Cupertino. MSI also fitted the devices with Intel’s 8th Core i7 processors and NVIDIA GeForce discrete graphics plus a fingerprint sensor, keeping an office warrior prepared for any tasks.
We also like how the PS42 does come with various ports that usually are sacrificed for slimness, you will find a SD card reader, USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C x 2 USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type- A x 2 and 1x HDMI ports placed nicely on both sides. A near bezel-less display means maximum screen real estate with 80% viewing area on the 14″ chassis, bringing gaming like display standards to the Prestige.
MSI will be comtemplating in introducing the Prestige PS42 into local markets taking on the likes of HP and Dell, however depending solely on the gaming series will not cut the cake if the brand wants to grow and reach the other 90% of the non-gaming consumers.
