OnePlus, once dubbed the flagship killer is back with an update to their OnePlus 7 lineup, the 7T and 7T Pro. It’s going to retail for USD $599 (RM 2510), and it’ll be available from 18th October, but no word on Malaysian availability yet.

The phone is of course, pretty high specced, the but the one thing I can’t get over is that God awful looking rear camera setup. But before we get to that, let’s talk about what the phones got going on under the hood.

The phone comes with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 855+ processor, along with 8GB RAM and 128GB of USF 3.0 storage, making it quite a snappy device. The display on this thing is a 6.55 inch AMOLED display, with a 20:9 aspect ratio, and it keeps the 90Hz refresh rate from the previous versions of the phone.

But the weird thing is, they’ve kept to a waterdrop notch, rather than the pop up camera like the  OnePlus 7 Pro. Not sure why they decided on that, but the phone is slightly cheaper than the Pro version, so maybe that’s why. Plus it’d be WAYYY too much innovation for one phone if it had a pop up cam AND that awful set up on the back, right?

It does also have HDR 10+ support for  as HDR Netflix. There’s also HDR on YouTube and other streaming services, so I guess that makes up for the cam.

With all that stuff out of the way, it’s time for the real sh*t. The rear camera setup is a 48MP ultra wide triple camera, which has a 2x optical zoom, and a 117° ultra wide lens. Admittedly, thats a pretty good setup already, but WHY that form factor?

Why follow your Chinese overlords, Huawei. The world doesn’t make sense anymore, and I’m really not looking forward to more and more phone manufacturers adopting this form factor, or worse.

The era of large camera sensors has begun. And I’m not sure I’m ready for it.
