Mosque Accepts Cashless Donations

There’s a headline you don’t see everyday. The oldest congregation centre for muslim communities steeped in tradition and belief, the Mosque… is now going digital. Masjid Al-Falah in Subang Jaya became the first mosque to start accepting digital donations via ewallet payment provider Boost, a homegrown solution from Axiata Digital.

In collaboration with RHB bank’s Kempen SyuQR – an initiative to bring a digital lifestyle to the concept of ‘Giving’ and/or ‘Sadaqah’ – Boost is revolutionising the ways communities to do their deeds during this festive season.

“This is RHB Islamic’s first collaborative effort with Axiata Digital to start digital sadaqah (donation) in conjunction with Ramadhan. RHB Islamic is honoured to be a partner in this effort to reach out to the underprivileged by encouraging Muslims to make digital donations towards Kempen SyuQR.,” said Dato’ Adissadikin Ali, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, RHB Islamic Bank Berhad.

Simlple steps: Scan and Pay, done!

With simple steps mosque goers can make donations with just their mobile phones, all they have to do is scan the QR code on display, decide the amount and transfer directly to Masjid Al-Falah’s RHB Bank account which is a safe way to avoid risk of keeping loose cash and theft.

This form of payments is widely seen as effective, among the long list of advantages is the reduced need for governments to print physical money (saving billions in the process), the set back at the moment is adoption which is still at its nascent stage. Tackling this, Boost has been the most active in creating awareness and promoting the new payment platform despite Bank Negara approving over 30 licenses for ewallet under its Financial Sector Blueprint for a cashless society by 2050. However, the likes of Alipay and Wechat are set to roll-out their services in coming months with other local players CIMB owned Touch N Go and Maybank have already started their introduction.

Boost has the advantage as first mover and has already secured over 12,000 merchants and 2 million users, CEO Chris believes as Malaysia has 20 million smartphone users there is plenty of room for growth in the space and is confident collaboration like this would serve as a great example to drive a cashless society.
