With many businesses already beginning to open under the Conditional MCO, many are wondering when the hair saloons and barbers will be allowed to operate.
In his daily press briefing, Dr Noor Hisham Deputy General at the Ministry of Health said today that his team have received the application by the barber association and steps they will take to prevent the spread of Covid 19. The SOP’s are being fine tuned by the Health Ministry firstly to gather data on the number of foreign workers currently employed in the industry and also to manage the close contact part of the business. Only after all the relevant information is gathered will MOH give its consent for the salons to operate.
Its understood the industry is desperate to resume, being closed for 2 1/2 months since MCO and still not allowed to open for business during CMCO, hairdressers are feeling left out while restaurants and malls start business. They cry foul of double standards, and urge the government to step up with the procedures, claiming why Singapore and US with higher number of Covid 19 cases have allowed hair salons to open shop.
Meanwhile, citizens have given up on waiting and started looking for alternatives like going online. Purchase of electric hair trimmers have hit all time record with many online sites reporting ‘out of stock’, home DIY is common thanks to online tutorials.
