Microsoft has released a new Windows lifecycle fact sheet on its website. According to it, the last day you can buy a PC pre-installed with Windows 7 is 31 October 2016. Afterwards, if you still plan on running Windows 7 for a long time, extended support for the OS will be available until 14 January 2020. Beyond this point, the Windows 7 will rest forever in the graveyard of past Windows.

So you have to act quickly if you want to buy a Windows 7 PC. The same goes for Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 computers and laptops. We suppose this is the natural next step for Microsoft, who’s eager to see Windows 10 on every devices operating its OS. If you still haven’t read about it, starting from next year, Microsoft will label Microsoft 10 under ‘Recommended update’ on your PC so that chances are, you’ll be getting a makeover for your Windows if you’re not paying attention.

The company usually shelves out older version of Windows two years after a new one comes out. However, Windows 7 has stayed longer because people have been very mistrustful when it comes to the Windows 8. And who can blame them after the fiasco with Windows 8.1. That’s why the pre-installed copies of Windows 7 Professional (OEMs) is still in the market, until October next year.

Don’t stress out. You have a year to decide whether you’ll stick to the good olde Windows 7 or embrace the new Windows 10. In the meantime, here’s something to tickle you. Why did Microsoft skips Windows 9? Because Windows 7, 8, 9. Get it? 😉
