Malaysians, Strap Your Seat Belt On For This Revolutionary New Way of Watching Movies

Movie buffs rejoice! Watching movies at an ordinary cinema is not exactly a viable option at the moment because of things like this. Screw Covid, I’m definitely more likely to die from that. If only there was somewhere I could watch something on the big screen while still benefiting from some good personal space….

Drive in Cinemas! Drive-in outdoor cinemas will be hitting Malaysian streets some time real real soon. July 15 to be exact. The first location the cinema is expected to debut in is K.L. city centre with the second location still as of yet, undisclosed. Fair warning though, do yourself a favor and refrain from looking into the parked cars. Ignorance is bliss yo.

Reportedly as of today, the government has approved the application of drive-in outdoor cinemas, allowing for its operation during the Movement Control Order(MCO).

Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail reiterated on the need for a strict observance of standard operating procedures(SOPs) throughout the operation.

The SOPs “include ensuring visitors remain in their respective vehicles and the selling of food (is conducted) online, with only drive-thru collection.”

“Rela personnel must also be stationed to monitor the movement of people,” he said in a statement today.

M-Junction’s Drive-In Cinema will be the first of its kind in Malaysia. Issues might arise in relation to the heat and ways to combat this in the car.

If we look to our neighbours, Thailand enjoys this attraction and has found a creative way to fight the heat – a cooling system out of a network of plastic pipes. That way, movie-goers can enjoy the movie within the confines of their vehicles without having to turn on their engines.

I am excited to see how Malaysia implements this old-timey idea, revived in the Covid-19 era. What about you?
