Nintendo has announced that it will be bringing over the Game Boy classic, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening onto the Switch platform. However this time, the game will receive a makeover more than just a Virtual Console-style release, it will be a complete 3D “reimagining” of the classic Zelda adventure.
Not much details have been unveiled thus far however Nintendo did have a trailer to show off the remake, which showcased the 8-bit Game Boy graphics redone in a bright, colorful, and in a charming 3D style that wouldn’t look out of place in a Pixar movie.
The classic was released way back in the 90s for the Game Boy, marking the franchise’s first jump onto a portable console. The recent announcement proves to be a fitting match for the Switch platform as it is Nintendo’s top handheld console at the moment.
As Link, players will return to the island of Koholint for new adventures. While the new Link’s Awakening will retain the top-down — and occasionally side-scrolling — view of the Game Boy original, the Switch remake will use 3D models and employ a stylish, toy-like aesthetic.

The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening remake is set to release later in 2019.
