KFC China Tests Face Recognition Payment

Lets face it, KFC China is adopting technology way faster than in Malaysia but then again retail in mainland is overall ahead in mobile payment then probably the rest of the world. The gap just got wider with the fast-food chain now offering customers quick checkout with a smile.

Trying out in one of its newer concept KFC outlets in eastern Chinese city Hangzhou called Kpro, Yum China the holding company for the brand  has introduced a new way for payment…by using your face and a smile, the face recognition service co-designed with Alibaba affiliate Ant Financial is targeted towards the younger customers who immerse themselves in everything technology related. Customers can just walk up to the kiosk make their order and pay via having their faces scanned. In addition to facial recognition payment, KPRO incorporates other cutting-edge technology throughout the restaurant to provide customers with a convenient and connected in-restaurant experience. With no traditional ordering counter, customers are able to ‘skip the queue’ by ordering at digital kiosks or using their mobile phones to scan QR codes and order at their tables.

KFC has been dabbling with various system in wooing younger customers to its outlets and has been successfully rolling out apps and services working together technology partners Alibaba and Baidu. With Ant Financial setting foot here in Malaysia, the operator has been busy working with merchants like 7-Eleven and Starbucks in introducing new epayment platforms for Chinese tourist. Suffice to say what China gets we here will see coming soon.
