Ex Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak will have to pay RM1.69 billion in overdue taxes to the Inland Revenue Board after the proceeding judge found Najib guilty.

The amount is said to be taxes from 2011 to 2017, according to the judge when a notice is issued by IRB no individual in the country is above the law and not pay their taxes. As a sitting Prime Minister, he should know the law and pay his taxes. If there are disputes on the taxation sum, the approach is always pay first and discuss for refund later. IRB filed a claim against the Pekan MP in 2019 and will finally be able to recover the money, however Najib has pleaded on the verdict.

This will be the first verdict of such ever been handed out to a Malaysian Prime Minister, but whats disturbing is the huge amount Najib had amassed to be taxed RM1.69 billion. Even if we were to take into the maximum tax rate for an individual which is 30%, the ex Prime Minister made close to RM6 billion in those 6 years. How is this even possible?

A civil servant who is a life long politician, coming from a political family background be earning billions while working. According to Wikipedia, a Malaysian Prime Minister earns RM22,000 not including allowance, Singapore which is known to pay their leaders well compensates about RM6 million per-annum to their Prime Minister.

He has claimed in the past the Saudi royalty were pleased with his work that they decided to donate billions for his personal use, a first in Malaysia’s history and probably in the world.
