Once upon a time, the JRPG genre was massive in the gaming industry. Though its shine has dimmed over the years in place of new trends, some still swear by them and their influences on gaming as a whole. It’s no surprise then that French developer Midgar Studio is bringing us Edge of Eternity, which launches into Steam Early Access on 5th December 2018.
This Early Access period will let players explore the game world prior to its full launch. Meanwhile, the team will add free updates throughout the period to expand the world and story.
Previously planned for launch on 29th November, the team at Midgar Studio decided to push the date back a week to allow for further polish.
Edge of Eternity is indie game produced through a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2015, which promises to pay tribute to JRPG classics. In just one month, Midgar Studio will be ready to let players explore the vast lands of Heryon, and have even brought on composer Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono Trigger, Xenoblade Chronicles) to craft the soundtrack.
The game will feature a grand JRPG adventure where choices matter, a classic turn-based battle system, and a cast of charismatic characters.
“We can’t wait to bring players into the world of Heryon for the very first time”, says Jeremy Zeler, Head of Midgar Studio, “We’ve got bold and ambitious plans for the future of Edge of Eternity, and opening up the first chapter of this adventure through Steam Early Access is just the first step on a hugely exciting journey.”
In a recent post, Midgar Studio talked about their experiences working on this project. Thanks to the response received on Kickstarter, the team was able to reiterate the game and improve on many fronts, including graphics, gameplay, story, and more.
“This wasn’t just “a J-RPG made by a few fans of the genre” anymore: thanks to the resonating success of this crowdfunding, it became something greater.”
