JBL produces some of the best sounding speakers and headphones with outstanding sound quality. The products are priced reasonably which are within everybody’s reach. In the world of audio, JBL is still a notable brand competing against some of the best competitors on the market. With the introduction of their latest JBL Bar 5.1, the brand is slowly making an entry into the home audio category tackling the soundbar segment.
What’s Inside the Box?
The box takes the shape of a chair, a seat and a backrest. There is a soundbar, a subwoofer, two wireless surround speakers and a smaller box with the necessary cables. Inside the box, there is a remote control with battery, power, HDMI, AUX, and optical cables. Also included is a calibration microphone for calibrating the speakers, wall mount bracket kit to mount the soundbar, quick start guide, warranty card and a safety sheet.
Less Wire, More Power
Gone are the days where audio cables are connected to each speaker which needs to be routed around the room. Having a wireless communication among the speakers makes it so much easier and neater to setup the audio system. The subwoofer and the soundbar are connected to each other wirelessly. As for the two surround speakers, they can either stay intact with the soundbar or removed to be placed behind you for a more surround effect. Only the soundbar and the subwoofer require power source. The two surround speakers have an inbuilt battery when functioning wirelessly and charge when attached back to the soundbar.
Power up the audio system and pair it to your phone or any other devices via Bluetooth in a few simple steps. The Bluetooth connectivity makes it a better option for a house party. Bear in mind that the Bluetooth has its limitation so other alternatives are available. There is an AUX cable which easily connects to any peripherals with a 3.5mm port. Besides that, there are three HDMI ports, one of which supports ARC connection. Lastly, an optical port is available to make use of the optical cable which comes with the soundbar. Not many manufacturers include such cable.
The subwoofer has a really big driver which has an amazingly heavy bass. This is undoubtedly the kind of speaker units you would want to have during a house party. The sound clarity from the speakers is crisp and clear. Increase the volume to the max and you might bring the house down because the bass kicks in heavier and amazingly enough, sound does not distort at all. Watching movies are a pleasure with the surround sound produced by the soundbar and the two wireless speakers. Sound travels around you but it does not perform as good as a 7.1 channel or above.
A Bang for Your Buck
The JBL Bar 5.1 is undoubtedly a great sounding speaker with a 5.1 channel. Bluetooth pairing makes it easier to listen to your favourite songs from your phone or other devices which support Bluetooth. Above all, the sound quality is great especially with its insanely huge driver inside the subwoofer. The bass is so heavy that your heart could even feel it too. With the wide range of connectivity options available on the soundbar, you will find yourself using only the HDMI ports most of the time. If you have a gaming console, the optical cable can come in handy.
