I guess smartphone manufacturers aren’t the only ones implementing 5G into their devices as there’s a new 5G big boy in town: McDonald’s. And yes, you read that right, McDonald’s. This comes from IT Home, who mentioned the popular fast-food chain would be hosting an online press conference on April 15 for a new 5G smart product.
They also released a bunch of teaser posters and images which don’t have much information, save for the 5G capability. They also do mention it’ll have a narrow bezel display, good speakers sound quality, facial recognition, an ultrawide camera lens, and 5G.
And yes, I’m sure in your head you might be thinking this is some sort of smartphone, or tablet. Which honestly, makes NO sense at all but who can tell? Most probably, this will be, like IT Home mentions, a 5G smart terminal. But I’m not sure how psyched I’d be to let McDonald’s use some form of facial recognition on me? It’s too dystopian of a future for my tastes, personally.
But hey, save the date, April 15 is when McDonald’s finally makes their move into the 5G space. The announcement is probably going to be in and for China only, but I’m interested to see what they’ve got cooking up back there.
On another note, would you buy a 5G smartphone from McDonald’s? I can’t even believe I’m saying that, it’s too ridiculous.
