Instagram Founders Leave Facebook

The original founders of Instagram, Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, are set to step away from the Facebook subsidiary after growing tension between them and Mike Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook.

The two has been with Instagram since the beginning, even after the USD715 million acquisition by the largest social media network in 2012. While the pair has managed to stave the social giant’s influence on the application, it seems that Zuckerberg is now increasing his involvement in the app and platform.

In a blog post, both Systrom and Krieger said that they are planning to take time off to explore their curiosity again. “Building new things requires that we step back, understand what inspires us and match that with what the world needs; that’s what we plan to do,” added the pair.

With the departure of the two, Instagram may be integrated even tighter with Facebook, and may be absorbed as part of the platform rather than as a separate app. This may be the sore point for Systrom and Krieger as Zuckerberg is seeing Instagram as a new growth platform for the stagnating Facebook. With Facebook’s penchant with scandals on privacy, fake news and interference in important events around the world, Instagram may be a casualty in Mike Zuckerberg aim to reach even more internet users with Facebook.
