Spreading its footprint to new frontiers, iflix our local internet TV service provider has now ventured into the largest country in South East Asia, Indonesia. With a population of 250 million a breakthrough here will be explosive for iflix, Astro tried and failed a decade back.

Having already presence in Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, iflix has partnered with Indosat Ooredoo, one of Indonesia’s largest telecommunications services and network providers, to deliver access to thousands of TV shows, movies from its library to the telco’s customers. The model has been working well for iflix, with similar strategy applied with local operators Digi, Celcom and U Mobile- in Malaysia.

Under the collaboration, select Indosat premium mobile and fiber broadband (GIG) customers will receive iflix services, bundled with their existing subscriptions to be sponsored by the telco. A potential reach of over 70 million base is possible via this tie-up.

A strong position to be in, as competition from US based Netflix is expanding just as fast, already available in this region, the streaming service starts at RM33 while iflix is RM8 per month. But the former has a wide selection of contents including award winning original programs. Netflix Chief Content Officer, Ted Sarandos recently commented on possible Singapore produced contents for the local market. iflix developed content, is something that has yet to realised by the fledgling company, a move in that direction will require huge capital, the focus for now is using the investments for expansion.
